Who can apply?

General Rule: Anyone who has legally and continuously resided in Spain for 10 years prior to applying.

Refugees: Those who have obtained refugee status in Spain can apply after 5 years.

Ibero-American countries, Andorra, Philippines, Guinea Ecuatorial and Portugal: You can apply after 2 years.

Special cases: You may be eligible to apply after 1 year if you:

Were born in Spain.
Were subject to legal guardianship or adoption by Spanish citizens.
Have been married to a Spanish national for at least a year (without separation).
Are the widow or widower of a Spanish national.
Are the descendant of Spanish nationals by origin.

Key details

Residency requirement: You must reside in Spain continuously for the specified period.
Integration: Applicants must demonstrate good civic conduct and integration into Spanish society.
Spanish Language Test (DELE): You will need to pass the DELE exam to prove your proficiency in the Spanish language. However, if you are from a Spanish-speaking country, this test is not required.
Cultural Test (CCSE): You must also pass the CCSE exam, which tests your knowledge of Spanish constitution and culture.
